Who am I

Alessandro Milani was born in 1982 in Borgomanero, in the province of Novara.

He approached music at a young age, particularly the violin, an instrument that has always fascinated him, leading him to begin private studies and, subsequently, to attend the G. Verdi Conservatory in Milan, under the guidance of Maestro Daniele Gay. In 2004, he got interested in the art of luthiery, attending the workshop of the master luthier Delfi Merlo in Milan, where he learned the most traditional Cremonese techniques of string instrument making. During these years, he also had the opportunity to engage in the restoration of ancient instruments.

From the very beginning, he demonstrated a remarkable manual skill that, combined with the musical sensitivity acquired during his years at the conservatory, allowed him to achieve excellent results both aesthetically and acoustically.

His deep passion and interest in luthiery, music, and the dynamics of sound lead him to conduct numerous research on the fundamental principles of string instrument operation: a careful study aimed at achieving the perfect harmony between many fundamental aspects in his creations: acoustic performance, mechanics, and, nonetheless, solidarity and aesthetics.

He has already performed many restorations of ancient instruments owned by various master musicians (including orchestral players from the Teatro alla Scala in Milan) and conservatory students. His instruments are highly appreciated at both national & international levels, especially for their excellent acoustic quality and meticulous attention to detail.

In 2008, he attended the course on bow maintenance held by Maestro Pietro Cavalazzi at the Civic School of Luthiery in Milan.
